Hit-and-run probe begins on death
Trinity Standard -
TRINITY — Although first thought to be a highway accident, a hit-and-run investigation has been launched in connection with the July 13 death of an Onalaska man. Keith Alan Theroit, 44, was killed after being run over by a vehicle on FM 356 between Carlisle and the Trinity-Polk county line. The initial accident investigation report issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety indicated Jeffery Ryan Wiggins of Livingston had reported running over a man who was laying on the highway. Wiggins was driving a 1988 Chevrolet four-door car north on FM 356 when the mishap occurred at 10:25 p.m. A follow-up report issued by Cpl. Michael D. Hutcherson of the Crockett DPS office said the autopsy report indicated Theriot has been struck prior to being run over by the passenger car. The report indicated a dual wheeled vehicle had hit the victim prior to his being hit by Wiggins' car. "This dual wheel vehicle likely received damage to its front and/or passenger side areas," Hutcherson wrote in his report. "The driver of this dual wheel vehicle fled the scene without reporting the crash." Larry Grant of the Trinity County Crime Stoppers program said Monday that his organization is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the hit-and-run driver. Those with information may provide it anonymously by calling the Crime Stopper hotline at 642-2334.
