Law enforcement delivers surprise
Trinity Standard -

Local law enforcement gave a Trinity man a Father's Day he'll never forget this year when they showed up at his home on Sunday, June 18. Robin Dobbs of Trinity, TX planned something special for her husband, who she says is a wonderful dad to their children and deserves recognition. "He's been giving all his life," Robin said. "He's a pretty amazing man." Ernest Dobbs, 56, lost his father when he was 12 years old. Dobbs' dad was a Texas State Trooper who was killed on duty when a drunk driver hit him in Leona, TX in 1974. Robin found a place online that makes memorial pendants for the families of fallen officers, which include the officer's name, department, and end of watch date. She also had the names of hers and Ernest's five children engraved on the back. Robin said there is a memorial at the site of the trooper's death, but that she wanted her husband to have something he could keep next to his heart, making the memorial pendant a perfect choice. She called Chief Steven Jones of the Trinity Police Department to ask for help in presenting the pendant to her husband. Officer Donald Givens and Deputy Daniel Aburto rose to the occasion. Ernest is a project manager for a construction company in Houston, and Robin said he takes the opportunity to help the homeless as much as he can.
