Police seize fake drugs
Trinity Standard - February 2007

TRINITY – Eight “rocks” of “turkey dope” or fake crack cocaine were seized by police last week during the arrest of a drug suspect.
Daniel Morning Jr., 46, of Trinity was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a crack pipe was found on his possession.
Sgt. Steven Jones of the Trinity Police Department said that a search of the suspect also found the simulated drugs.
“Turkey dope as it is called is made of wax and either baby powder or baby formula,” Jones said. “They make it so that it looks like a rock of crack and then sell it to drug users.”
Jones said selling fake drugs is a fairly common tactic used by drug dealers to take advantage of addicts.
Another common tactic used by addicts to take advantage of the dealers is tightly folding a piece of paper and then claiming it to be a folded $20 bill.
“What they’ll do is hand the folded paper to the dealer as the dealer hands over the drugs. Before the dealer has a chance to look at it, they’ll say something like, ‘hurry, here comes the police.’
“The dealer will then shove the folded paper into his pocket and take off and not learn what he actually has until much later,” Jones said.

Drugs found in car
In other police activity last week, Barabbas Baker, 24, of Trinity was taken into custody on Friday, Feb. 9, on a warrant charging him with possession of a controlled substance.
Jones said that officers Stephen Hodges and Thomas Park stopped a vehicle on Barker Street and the driver, Baker, was issued tickets for driving without a license and for not having insurance.
The vehicle was towed to an impound yard and Jones said when its contents were inventoried, police found what appeared to be both powdered and crack cocaine as well as a small quantity of marijuana.
A warrant was then issued for Baker’s arrest on the drug charges.
Baker is currently serving probation in connection with two previous convictions. On May 19, 2005, he was placed on probation for two years on an evading arrest conviction and on Oct. 5, 2006, he was placed on probation for six years on a possession of controlled substance conviction.
