April 15 deadline set for ex-student scholarships
Trinity Standard - March 2007

TRINITY – Trinity High School seniors and former students wishing to apply for a Trinity Ex-Students Association scholarship have until April 15 to submit their applications.

According to association President Keith Johnson, a total of nine scholarships will be awarded this year to current and former THS students.

“Six of the scholarships will be going to Trinity High School seniors who are about to graduate this year while three are open Trinity graduates who are already in college,” he said.

He added that the three scholarships being offered to former students also are open to those who are not currently enrolled in a college or university.

“They are open to ex-students who want to go back to college,” he added.

Application forms are available at the office of THS Counselor Cheryl Spearman or by writing to the Trinity Ex-Students Association, Box 1994, Trinity, Texas 75862.

Johnson said the application packet contains information regarding the qualifications for each scholarship being offered. While the qualifications for each scholarship may vary slightly, Johnson said the one requirement for each is that the student must submit a short essay regarding why they want the scholarship as well as some information about each applicant.

THS seniors also should be prepared to submit a copy of their high school transcript while former students will be asked to provide a copy of their college grades for the last two semesters they attended.

Completed applications should be mailed back to the association.

Among the scholarships which the association administers are:

• The Ex-Student Association Scholarship. Two $1,000 awards available.

• The Class of 1959 Scholarship. Two $1,000 awards available and can be used at either a college or trade school.

• The Callahan Memorial Scholarship. One $1,000 award.

• The John Martin Scholarship. One $500 award.

• The John Horace Bell Scholarship. Being offered for the first time, this $1,000 award will be offered to a music major.

• The Loyd and Mozelle Bell Scholarships. Two $1,000 awards offered to elementary education majors.
