Two men jailed following robbery on Trinlady road
Trinity Standard , March 2007
TRINITY – Two men were being held under $100,000 bonds each this week after being charged in connection with an armed robbery reported Tuesday, March 6, on Trinlady Park Road near Trinity.
Travis Burdine of Huntsville and Keith Jenkins of Trinity were each held on aggravated robbery charges filled in connection with the incident.
According to Chief Jim Gratz of the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department, the incident began Tuesday evening when two suspects followed a Trinity woman from the Brookshire Brothers grocery store to a barn located off Trinlady Park Road just outside of the Trinity city limits.
Gratz said the woman was feeding livestock when one of the men approached her, pulled a pistol and demanded money.
A Trinity city police officer in the area heard the woman screaming and radioed for assistance.
As police moved toward the scene, the gunman fled the area on foot while the second suspect, who had remained in a vehicle, drove away.
Sgt. Steven Jones of the Trinity Police Department subsequently apprehended the suspected gunman, who was identified as Burdine, while Pct. 2 Constable Ricky Hortman was able to stop the alleged get-away-car and take Jenkins into custody.
A .380 caliber pistol was recovered by Jones.
Jones noted that when the gunman fled the area, he ran into the Milltown area of northern Trinity.
“I knew that there are a lot of Trinity firemen who live in Milltown so I radioed to ask them to be on the lookout for the suspect,” Jones said.
Instead of just “looking out” for the fugitive, Jones said many of the firemen actually joined in the search.
Gratz said both suspects were in custody less than 45 minutes after the holdup attempt.
Heading up the investigation for the sheriff’s department is Deputy Ted Smith. Also assisting in the search were deputies Hayne Huffman and Wayne Huffman who are also members of the Trinity Volunteer Fire Department.
