Better Business Scam Alert
Trinity Standard -
TRINITY — The Better Busines Bureau of Deep East Texas announced on Feb. 4 a new scam sweeping across the area. President Bill McGuire had this to say. "We have received 4 phone calls from local people from a man claiming they have been awarded a $9,000 grant. The first call this morning had caller ID with the # 202-210-0054 and the man said his name was Frank Mueller. Most of the calls have been to cell phones, 3 in BCS, and one to someone from Anderson." "Of course, it is someone who could be calling from anywhere, even though the prefix would be Washington DC. People should hang up and NOT give out any of their personal information. The scam artist is only after your personal information such as your social security number and probably your bank account and routing number to your bank, which would allow them to direct deposit those funds." He added "One problem; there will not be any funds going into your account, especially if you give them the information, because their plan is to make a withdrawal. You should NEVER give your personal information to strangers who call you." If anyone receives a suspicious phone call, letter or email they should immediately report their findings to the Better Business Bureau. Their information is as follows: Tel: 979-260-2222, or, Fax: 979-846-0276, or visit them online at bbb.org.
