Class of 2014 says farewell Scholarships to Trinity Seniors top $79,000

TRINITY — The graduating class of 2014 said farewell Friday night, May 30, during ceremonies held at the Tiger Stadium. A total of 64 graduates were recognized during the ceremonies for their scholastic accomplishments. Amongst them were the Valedictorian Shaye Felchak and Salutatorian Sarah Ortiz. It was a night filled with old memories and new beginnings as the class ended their high school years and move on to college or the workforce. In her speech Felchak quoted Dr. Suess saying, "You'll be on your way up! You'll be seeing great sights! You'll join the high fliers who soar to high heights." Commenting on the choices and fear that come along with new beginnings her speech was a message of uplifting and motivating her fellow graduates. Ortiz, who also quoted Dr. Suess, in her speech gave great thanks to the teachers and mentors that helped her in so many ways. Commenting on the lasting memories made and shared by all, she thanked her family for pushing her to be her absolute best. More than $79,000 in scholarships were handed to Trinity Graduates this year during the annual ceremonies held. Along with the scholarships were special awards presented to seniors who showed outstanding performance in academics and extra curricular activities for their high school years. Following is a list of scholarships presented during the ceremonies: State of Texas Honor Graduate Award (presented to the class valedictorian) Melodie Shay Felchak – Free tuition and fees for a year to any state supported university. Smith-Hutson Scholarship presented to Curtis Saunders a full scholarship to any state supported university for two years. U.S. Marine Corp Scholarship presented to Ryan George for $18,000. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship presented to Jesse Reyes for $18,000 over a four-year period. The Trinity Fair Queen Scholarship presented to Hailey Burk for $600 scholarship. First National Bank – Dr. Sam R. Barnes Scholarship presented to Keaton Ogden for $500 per semester for eight semesters. Joe Werner Masonic Lodge Scholarship presented to Sarah Ortiz and Cheyenne Hart for $2,000 each year for two years. Charlene Carr Memorial - Order of the Eastern Star Scholarship presented to Laura Lopez for $500. The Trinity Ex-Students Scholarships presented to: Hailey Pruitt, Cheyenne Hart, Curtis Saunders and Keaton Ogden for $1,000 each. Scholarships presented to Sarah Ortiz, Josh Valenta and Sarah Letter for $500 each. Laura Lopez was presented with a $500 scholarship also from the Trinity Ex-Students. The Top Ten Percent Scholarship presented to Jesse Reyes, Sarah Ortiz and Shaye Felchak for $600 each. Patsy bell Jolly Memorial Scholarship presented to Keaton Ogden for $250. The WBT&S Scholarship presented to Laura Lopez for $300. The Knights of Columbus Scholarship presented to Laura Lopez for $2,000. Trinity County Farm Bureau Scholarship presented to Keaton Ogden for $500. The Lion's Club Scholarship presented to Sarah Ortiz and John Bledsoe for $500. Trinity Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship presented to Laura Lopez for $2,000. TLL Temple Scholarship presented to Cheyenne Hart for $750 each semester for four semesters. The Parent Teachers Association Scholarship presented to Jesse Reyes for $700. The Etrey's Scholarship presented to Sarah Ortiz for $500. Texas A&M Regent Scholarship presented to Jesse Reyes for $500. The S&K Foundation Scholarship presented to Josh Valenta for $1,000. Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church – Ladies Guild – Scholarship presented to Vianney Castro for $500. The Roy Cross Jr. Memorial Scholarship presented to Laura Lopez for $300. The Tracy Waller Memorial Scholarship presented to Jake Odom for $500. The Athletic Director's Scholarship presented to Pat Ward for $500. The Texas A&M Scholarship presented to Shaye Felchak for $5,000 and Jesse Reyes for $3,000. The Al Weidman Scholarship presented to Shawn Stoneking for $250. The VFW Patriotic Art Contest Scholarship presented to Lauren Black for $300 and Zach Rankin for $150. The VFW Patriotic Speech Contest Scholarship presented to Lauren Black for $300. Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award presented to Hailey Pruitt and Jesse Reyes.
