Crime Stoppers awarded $3,575 grant
Trinity Standard- November 2007
AUSTIN –Trinity County Crime Stoppers Inc. was one of 56 programs across Texas awarded Crime Stoppers Assistance Grants on Monday by Gov. Rick Perry.
The local program, which pays cash rewards for tips that solve local crimes, is being given $3,575.
The Governor’s Criminal Justice Division (CJD) administers the grant program and awarded more than $576,000 to 56 Crime Stoppers programs statewide.
“Criminal deterrent and combatant programs are important to ensuring Texans have safe communities to live, work and raise a family,” Perry said.
“By strengthening the communications capacity between citizens and law enforcement, Crime Stoppers helps raise public awareness, reduce crime and increase safety for all Texans,” he added.
Crime Stoppers programs focus on reducing crime by operating local hotlines that receive and forward information about criminal activities and fugitives. Members of the public can call anonymously and their information is turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
Informants are guaranteed anonymity and receive cash rewards when tips lead to an arrest.
Grants distributed by CJD to state-certified Crime Stoppers programs support information systems such as 24-hour tip hotlines, technology upgrades and participation in the Annual Crime Stoppers Campus Conference.
Each year, CJD awards more than $113 million in grants to a variety of juvenile justice, criminal justice and victim services programs.
Grants to local Crime Stoppers programs ranged in size from a maximum of $15,000 down to $2,720.
The Trinity County tip hotline for Crime Stoppers is 642-2334
