Christmas baskets offered to the needy
Trinity Standard - November 2007
TRINITY – The 21st annual Christmas Basket Program will once again offer holiday food and toys to needy area families and the application process is now underway.
Those wishing to receive a basket are invited to go to the Good Samaritan House weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and noon to fill out a request form. The house is located just off Elm on Ramey Street, three blocks north of the Trinity First United Methodist Church.
Deadline for applications will be Friday, Dec. 7. Baskets are scheduled to be distributed on Friday, Dec. 21.
The request form contains a place to list the names, age and school grade of all children in the family, plus the number of adults.
Information on the children is being sought so the basket committee can obtain appropriate toys for each child.
In addition, the basket will contain holiday food items for the family.
Once the application process is completed, those receiving the baskets will be notified of the time they should pickup their holiday basket.
When it was launched 21 years ago by the Trinity Ministerial Alliance, the Christmas Basket Program began modestly with only 55 baskets of food and some used toys.
Last year the program handed out almost 400 baskets containing food and new toys and organizers are expecting to top that amount this year. The cost of the program currently is running at about $15,000, which is funded entirely by voluntary contributions.
Those wishing to contribute money to the program are being urged to mail their donations to the program as soon as possible. The address is Christmas Basket Committee, P.O. Box 112, Trinity, Texas 75862.
