Lane enters race for tax assessor-collector
Trinity Standard - December 2007

TRINITY -- Trinity County native Jolie Webb Lane has announced her plans to seek the office of Trinity County Tax Assessor-Collector in the March 4, 2008 Democratic Primary Election.
Lane is seeking the post currently held by Kathy McCarty.
Lane said in a recent conversation with McCarty, the incumbent tax assessor-collector confirmed her intent to retire at the end of her current term. Lane commended McCarty for her performance in the office for the past 12 years.
A lifetime resident of Trinity County, Lane is a 1988 graduate of Trinity High School and attended Angelina College.
She currently resides with her family outside of Trinity.
Lane is the daughter of Cecil and Billie Webb of Trinity. She and her husband, Steven Lane, have one son, Kyle, and two daughters, Kolby and Kamryn.
The candidate is a member of the Trinity Fellowship Church, where she has attended for more than 30 years.
She is currently employed as an administrative assistant with the Trinity Independent School District, working primary with attendance, truancy and classroom coverage. She has worked with TISD since July 2005.
Prior to her employment with TISD, Lane served for 9½ years in the area of public assistance with the Texas Health and Human Service Commission (formerly the Texas Department of Human Services).
Lane worked as a THHSC administrative assistant for five years with duties of processing applications, scheduling recertifications and maintaining records.
She also served the agency for 3½ years as an eligibility specialist. Her responsibilities included interviewing clients to gather information, calculating budgets and performing proper case management to ensure correct benefit amounts.
Prior to joining THHSC, she was employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
With a long history as a public servant, Lane is a member of the Trinity PTA, Trinity Young Farmers (FFA Booster Club), Trinity County 4-H Adult Leaders Association and the Trinity Community Fair Board. She also is a former member of the Trinity County Fair Board and has served as a 4-H leader for the past four years.
In announcing her plans to seek office, Lane commended McCarty and her staff on the high collection rate and assured taxpayers that she will maintain those same high standards.
She said she would work with other elected officials for the betterment of Trinity County and added that if elected, she would hope that the current employees of the tax office would chose to remain.
Lane noted she has vast experience in customer service and with working with the public in general. She said she is a firm believer in customer service being practices in all offices.
The candidate added she hopes to meet as many Trinity County residents as possible over the next few months and to hear their opinions on how this office could better suit the needs of taxpayers with the resources that are available.
