Trinity Standard - March 2008
TRINITY – When the filing deadline passed at 5 p.m. Monday, races had developed for three city posts and one hospital board seat in the May 10 local elections.
Only the two incumbents filed in the Trinity School Board election which means that the school district will be able to cancel its election and declare Dorothy Franklin and L.C. Courtney as the winners.
In the city’s election, a three-way race has developed for the mayor’s job. Incumbent Lyle Stubbs is being challenged by Jimmie Sellers II and Paula Vaughn.
A three-way contest also is set for the Position 1 city council seat now held by Dayrl Morrow, who is being challenged by Clegg DeWalt and Raymond Hamilton.
In the Position 2 race, incumbent Wayne Huffman is being challenged by former councilwoman Vera Fransaw.
Position 3 Councilman Chris Dennis is unopposed for re-election to a new two-year term.
In the Trinity Memorial Hospital District’s board election, three of the four incumbents up for election will be unopposed.
The only race will be for the Position 4 seat. Incumbent Travis Starr is being challenged by Jerry Coma for the two-year term.
Candidates who will be unopposed include Position 2 Board Member Larry King, Position 6 Board Member Gordon Cotton and Position 8 Board Member David Ward.
