Shooting victim recovering
Trinity Standard - April 2008
TRINITY – An 18-year-old Trinity man was recovering this week following an accidental shooting incident reported Sunday, March 30, in the Lake L Acres subdivision near Trinity.
According to Trinity County Deputy Sheriff Thomas Park, he and another deputy, John Raiford, had responded to a dog call in the subdivision and were in the process of leaving when they were flagged down by two girls.
“They told us that someone had been shot and was being driven by his mother to the Trinity hospital,” Park said.
Raiford remained behind to secure the scene of the shooting and Park drove to the entrance of the Lake L. Acres subdivision where he stopped the vehicle containing the wounded man.
Park then radioed ahead and escorted the victim and his mother into Trinity where they met an ambulance at the intersection of Madison Street and FM 356.
The victim was taken to East Texas Medical Center – Trinity where he was treated and then transferred by a life flight helicopter to a Bryan-College Station area hospital.
“The victim had been showing a friend a small, .22 caliber revolver, when it discharged. The bullet struck him in the upper, right chest,” Park said.
The deputy said the victim had placed the pistol in a holster and handed it to a friend to put on a shelf. As the friend reached up to the shelf, the gun slid out of the holster and fell to the floor where it fired.
No charges were pending in the investigation.
