Two sought after fleeing from sheriff
Trinity Standard , July 2007
TRINITY – Two Trinity men were being sought this week after fleeing from Trinity County Sheriff Steven Jones on the night of Tuesday, June 26.
Christopher Cunningham, 26, and Chris Dshun Callahan, 31, were being sought following an incident that occurred on Barker Street near the Jackson Trailer Park.
According to Jones, the incident began when he spotted the men standing on the street. The sheriff said he knew an arrest warrant charging Cunningham with violating the terms of his probation had been issued.
“When I attempted to arrest him, he broke, ran north and managed to escape,” Jones said.
The sheriff said when he returned to his vehicle, he attempted to search Callahan for weapons in preparation of questioning him about the incident.
Jones said when he asked the man to put his hands on the patrol car, Callahan fled the scene.
Jones, together with Deputy Sheriff Mitch Newman and Trinity Police Chief Lynn Gentry searched the area but were unable to locate either of the suspects.
Both men are now wanted on probation violation warrants. Cunningham and Callahan had been placed on probation after being found guilty on charges of possession of controlled substances.
Jones said that Cunningham sometimes uses the nicknames of “Pork,” “Poyo” and “Cuz” while Callahan uses the names “Ballhead” and “Cuz.”
The sheriff said he was patrolling the area around Barker Street near the Jackson Trailer Park because it has become a “hot spot” for drug activity in Trinity. Jones said city police and county deputies have made a number of drug-related arrests in recent weeks in the area.
Anyone with any information about the location of either Cunningham or Callahan is asked to contact the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department at 642-1424 or the Trinity County Crime Stoppers program at 642-2334.
