I have always been fascinated by the different things the world has to offer a woman to make her feel beautiful and confident. I’ve found myself studying the women I’m close to and noticing their favorite things. I try to notice what they wear, how they style their hair, and the special touches they choose for different occasions. Some women share similar habits. They never go with chipped nail polish, and French tips are a must. Others wear the same perfume for years, and every time they walk into a room, they receive a compliment on how nice they smell. I love the idea that every woman has something unique that makes her feel beautiful and confident, and that it can be very different for each woman. In this piece, I want to highlight a few of my loved ones’ favorite things that make them feel beautiful, along with a few of my own.
Honestly, I feel like anyone who is close to me could guess mine easily, because for about five days out of the week, I’m wearing it. The classic black dress, high heels, and red lipstick combo has been my go-to for quite some time. I discovered this look when I was about 19 or 20, and I haven’t turned back since. Back when I used to run the cosmetics counter in town, I was required to wear black. During that time, I was able to put together and try different ensembles, including black dresses. Working in cosmetics also gave me the chance to experiment with different shades of lipstick. When I tried on red, my face just popped! The combination of the black dress and red lipstick really made me feel confident about myself, and I topped it all off with a pair of high heels. I may feel differently about this in the next ten years, or I may be rocking this combo into my seventies. At the very least, those items have given me a boost of confidence over the last several years.
Watching the women in my life embrace the things that make them feel beautiful has shown me that confidence comes in many forms. Whether it’s a favorite dress, a swipe of lipstick, or a sparkling piece of jewelry, each choice reflects a woman’s spirit and story. These small details may seem simple, but they hold the power to make us feel our best. I’m grateful for the women who have influenced me and taught me that beauty isn’t just about how you look. It’s about how you carry yourself and the confidence you feel within.
