The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Livingston Police Department successfully conducted a large-scale ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) Active Shooter Response Exercise Friday. The exercise was designed to enhance emergency preparedness and strengthen the coordinated response between law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel, school officials, and community partners during a critical incident.
The exercise was held at one of the local schools and involved more than 150 participants, including law enforcement officers from multiple agencies, school administrators and faculty, students, emergency medical personnel, firefighters, and volunteer role players. The realistic scenario provided participants with the opportunity to practice coordinated response tactics, unified command, rescue operations, communications, and incident management in a controlled training environment.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Livingston Police Department expressed their appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the exercise. According to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a very special thank you goes to the Alabama-Coushatta Police Department, Fire Department, and Office of Emergency Management for providing their Mobile Command Center, as well as the Onalaska Police Department, Corrigan Police Department, Texas Game Wardens, Texas Department of Public Safety, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, Texan EMS, Allegiance EMS, and all of the local volunteer fire departments for their outstanding assistance and participation.
The news release also offered appreciation to the school administrators, faculty, staff, students, and volunteer role players. “Your willingness to give your time, energy, and enthusiasm made the exercise incredibly realistic and successful. We couldn’t have accomplished this level of training without your support, and we truly appreciate your commitment to helping keep our schools and community safe.”
Exercises of this magnitude are essential to ensuring that first responders and school personnel are prepared to respond quickly, effectively, and collaboratively during an active threat or other critical incident. “While we hope these skills are never needed in a real-world event, continuous training strengthens our readiness and reinforces our commitment to protecting our schools and our community.”
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Livingston Police Department remain committed to maintaining the highest level of preparedness, strengthening partnerships with public safety agencies and schools, and ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Polk County.
“The professionalism, teamwork, and dedication demonstrated by everyone involved made the exercise one of the largest and most successful collaborative training events conducted in our area.”
