“Preserving the Past for Future Generations” is the theme of this year’s Onalaska Pioneer Days hosted by the Greater Onalaska Heritage Society from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today (Thursday) through Saturday at 400 S. FM 356 in Onalaska, next to City Hall.
Homemade chicken and dumplings, green beans and cornbread will be available for purchase for $12 a plate beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday.
There will be a cornbread cook-off on Saturday with judging beginning at 11 a.m. Following the judging, red beans, cornbread and homemade chicken and pork tamales will be available for purchase for $10 a plate.
Numerous activities will be offered during the annual event, including arts and crafts, homemade biscuits and butter churning, horseshoes, square dancing, live music, rub board washing, sewing, quilting, washers and more.
Various guests are scheduled to appear, including Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, Community Garden Club, Polk County AgriLife Extension Service, Polk County Memorial Museum, Buffalo Soldier, volunteers and community leaders.
The Greater Onalaska Heritage Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with the goals of educating others on the history and day-to-day life of sawmill times and preserving the past for future generations.
