The Big Sandy Wildcats got a lopsided 14-0 win in the 2026 season opener on the road against the Colmesneil Bulldogs Monday night. Big Sandy’s pitching dominated the Bulldogs, striking out nine, while only allowing just one walk.
Colmesneil’s starting pitcher struggled to find the strike zone in the top of the first inning and Big Sandy took advantage of it, drawing five walks and scoring three runs. In the second inning, Daniel Barker and Emmett Railey each drove in a run, giving the Wildcats a 5-0 lead. They added two more runs in the third inning on RBIs from Gus Hardy and Trig Byrd.
The Wildcats extended their lead in the fourth to 9-0 with an RBI-double from Wyatt Lenox and another RBI from Barker. They scored five more runs in the fifth inning.
Senior Zack McGallion started on the mound for the Wildcats and pitched effectively. McGallion went four innings allowing no runs, a walk, and struck out seven.
“He was efficient and had swing and miss stuff,” Big Sandy coach Kasey Glover said. “Any time he pitches like that, he gives our ball club a chance to win.”
Hardy pitched the fifth inning giving up a hit and struck out two.
Byrd went 2-for-2 with three walks, two runs, and two RBIs. McGallion went 2-for-2 with two walks and four runs. Barker had three walks, three runs, and two RBIs.
The victory gives Glover his first career win as head coach. Big Sandy is hosting their second annual Wildcat baseball tournament this weekend with games against Onalaska, Trinity and East Chambers.
