Texas A&M Forest Service and Piney Wood Lakes Chapter Texas Master Naturalists will distribute hundreds of free bare-root trees to encourage increasing the canopy on Friday. This annual free giveaway will be held in the parking lot of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce between noon and 2 p.m. or until all the trees are gone.
The partner organizations expect the giveaway will help to replace some of the tree loss and add value to property, habitat for birds and pollinators and enjoyment to outdoor activity. Choose from cherry bark, sawtooth, Shumard and Nuttall oak, bald cypress and pecan for shade and to attract a variety of wildlife.
When you reach the Polk County Chamber of Commerce located at 1001 US 59 in Livingston, follow the parking guides and directional signs; fill out the sheet a volunteer will provide with your selection and quantity request; and the trees will be wrapped, tagged and brought to your car.
