The Big Sandy Wildcats were at home Tuesday against the Sabine Pass Sharks, looking to get back on track after losing back-to-back games last week Danbury, 7-6 and 13-0. They managed a 7-2 win over the Sharks, to better their district standing.
Big Sandy’s bats got going in the bottom of the third. With runners on second and third and two outs, Trig Byrd smashed an RBI-single up the middle. Ezekiel Angel scored on a double steal to put the Wildcats up 2-0. In the fourth, the Wildcats added another run to take a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Sabine Pass scored their first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
In the bottom half of the inning with the bases loaded, Daniel Barker hit a line-drive single to center that got by the Shark centerfielder, allowing three Wildcats to score. The next batter, Lev Cox, knocked in another run to put Big Sandy up, 7-1. The Sharks were able to score a run in the seventh inning, but relief pitcher Jasper Hardy came in and shut them down, giving the Wildcats a five-run win.
Big Sandy starting pitcher, Corbin Cude, was outstanding on the mound. He threw 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, three walks, and striking out nine. Angel went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run, and two stolen bases. Cude was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs. Eli Murphy was 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base. Daniel Barker went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.
The Wildcats go for the sweep Friday in Sabine Pass, and play the Leggett Pirates at 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday in Big Sandy.
