The Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs earned 33-0 shutout win, visiting the Leon Cougars on Friday.
It was a dominant performance on both sides, marking the first shutout of the season for the Bulldogs and their first victory on the road.
“I felt really good about our defensive plan, how we are lining up and our knowledge base of what they were trying to do,” said Bulldog head coach Brett Ratliff. “Our defense just looked good all week. We come out tonight and showed it. I am very proud of that unit.”
The Bulldog offense also had their most consistent showing as they continued to spread the carries with multiple rushers.
“We had to play a clean game, offensively. We did not make many mistakes,” Ratliff said. “We are going to continue mixing it up [with our running backs.] That gives us the best chance to succeed.”
Sitting with a 3-1 district record, Corrigan now has a high-stakes matchup next week versus the Centerville Tigers to share the district title.
After the Cougar offense stalled out on the opening drive Friday night, Bulldog sophomore running back Derrick Reagie exploded for a massive gain to get to the red zone for Corrigan.
Shortly after, Bulldog senior quarterback Michael Sullivan would take the sneak and make a second effort through the pile for a touchdown to go up 6-0 early after the blocked extra kick.
Corrigan would have another scoring opportunity with strong field position after causing a fumble turnover on defense.
Bulldog senior tailback Mason Murphy caught two big passes on that drive from Sullivan to help move the sticks.
Later, Bulldog sophomore running back Nemo Marshall took it in for the three-yard rushing touchdown to help extend Corrigan’s lead 13-0 late in the first quarter.
Reagie and Murphy got big runs as the Bulldogs marched down the field again early in the second quarter.
Marshall finished that drive with another short touchdown run to further extend to a 20-0 Corrigan lead.
Leon caught a lucky break with a defensive penalty on their next possession, but the Bulldog defense held strong to push him back out of the red zone.
Despite being pinned down from their own one-yard line, Corrigan’s offense managed to put together a long scoring drive before the half.
Mixing it up with the run and short-passing game, this drive finished with Murphy catching a short touchdown pass on the out route from Sullivan.
This made it 27-0 at halftime.
The Cougars started to drive down the field in the third quarter, but fumbled the ball again to give it back to Corrigan.
Reagie capitalized with an explosive run to midfield on the next possession, followed by a long keeper along the left side by Bulldog sophomore quarterback William Ratliff.
The Bulldogs capped it off with an amazing reverse from Murphy to Sullivan, then to Reggie who powered through for a final, nine-yard touchdown.
Corrigan would get the ball again after another stop and quickly marched into the red zone. With the game already in the books, the Bulldogs took a gentleman’s victory formation to end the night.
The Bulldogs will face Centerville at home this Friday at 7 p.m. for the district title to close out the regular season.
