Search efforts that continued for several days on the Trinity River in Polk County for a missing 31-year-old man ended when his body was recovered April 28.
Since the evening of April 25, Texas Game Wardens, including the Underwater Search and Recovery Team and the Texas Game Warden Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program, actively searched the area below the Lake Livingston Dam near Highway 3278.
Initial reports indicated two men were missing. However, one was located and transported to a local hospital on April 25 and has since been released. Search efforts remained focused on locating the missing 31-year-old, which wardens labeled a water fatality.
The two were said to be swimming across the river when one began to struggle and went under.
Texas Game Wardens utilized side-scan and towable sonar technology, along with multiple vessels on the water. A Texas Game Warden Aviation team also joined the search effort.
Other agencies involved included the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Texas State Park Police officers, multiple fire departments from Polk and San Jacinto counties, Cape Royal Fire Department, Montgomery County Constable Precinct 1 and San Jacinto County Emergency Management.
