Bruce Merton Horton was born to Terry Horton and Viola Overhauser on December 2, 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed peacefully from this Earth on December 31, 2025 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania at the age of 91.

He is survived by his children, Bruce, David, John and Carolyn; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Bruce grew up in the Omaha area within a Christian family of eight. He worked in an insurance general agency where his father was a partner during high school. After graduating, he earned a scholarship from an insurance company to attend Illinois Institute of Technology to complete a Certificate in Property Insurance. Commercial insurance was his lifetime career, working for several companies, taking on positions over the years with greater responsibility. While studying in Chicago, Illinois, he met his wife, Yvonne. Soon after completion of his schooling and before Yvonne was finished with her training as a nurse, he volunteered with the Army for two years of service. They were together for 68 years prior to her passing in 2024.

Bruce was always active with many activities that kept both mind and hands busy. These include building model airplanes, photography (including processing and printing), automobile restoration, wood carving, oil painting, wood turning, laser and CNC projects.

Bruce has supported many organizations with his time and talents, holding various positions in organizations like churches and Boy Scouts, supporting crime tip groups and the Escapees CARE center in Livingston, Texas.

Bruce has traveled to many destinations around the world through camping, backpacking, bicycling and RVing. Highlights include a bicycle trip across the U.S. and many trips as staff with Adventure Caravans.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. on January 31 at CARE, 155 Care Center Dr., Livingston, Texas.
