Case appears to be a murder-suicide

A Lufkin mother and son were discovered dead in a vehicle on the side of the US 59 bypass Saturday night.

According to a press release from the Livingston Police Department, the department was notified on Saturday, Nov. 1 by the Lufkin Police Department about a female who had expressed suicidal ideations and was accompanied by a male juvenile who were possibly in the local department’s jurisdiction. Lufkin PD provided two possible vehicle descriptions and local officers immediately began searching for both vehicles.

At approximately 10:47 p.m. Saturday, one of the vehicles was located parked on the shoulder in the 800 block of US 59 South. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers located 27-year-old Adelia Garcia Torres and 8-year-old Cesar Ulyses Enriquez, both of Lufkin. Both were confirmed deceased at the scene from apparent single gunshot wounds.

A review of the evidence provided by Lufkin Police Department, as well as evidence collected at the scene, led to the determination that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

“Our hearts go out to the victims’ family and friends as they try to move forward after this tragic incident. We would also like to thank the Lufkin Police Department, Polk County Sheriff ’s Office and Texas Rangers for their assistance with this investigation,” the press released stated.
