‘Cats cut turnovers, refine offense

Big Sandy basketball took another step toward a district championship Tuesday, defeating West Hardin 69-42 in Dallardsville.

The ‘Cats did not get off to the start they wanted, plagued by turnovers in the first half. That kept the outcome in doubt, leading 24-17 at halftime.

Big Sandy coach Dalton Flowers said cutting down on their 13 turnovers for the first half and an adjustment to slow an Oiler scorer was the key to a better showing.

Jamesley Flowers led the points category for the Wildcats with 16, Naki Thompson had 14, and Shudey Beene-Williams and Colt Bullock each scored 11. As a team, Big Sandy hit a dozen 3-pointers.

The district is likely to be determined by a contest Friday, Feb. 13, when the team travels to Sabine Pass. In the first match, Big Sandy won a 68-66 game in overtime. The Sharks have just one district loss, while the Wildcats are still undefeated in 25-2A.
