Education foundation launches drive

Friday is the official kickoff date for the Onalaska Education Foundation’s (OEF) annual drive. This year’s drive is a collective effort to secure donations from corporations and individuals to fund innovative teaching grants, student scholarships and academic achievement for Onalaska schools.

OEF is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization created for the benefit of the school district to provide funding not allocated by tax dollars. In order to accept such donations, many school districts across Texas have created non-profit entities such as this so donors can take advantage of existing tax laws.

“The Onalaska Education Foundation is another creative way to enhance educational programs in our district without raising taxes,” OEF Board President Zachary Davies said. “Our collective mission is to generate and distribute resources exclusively to our school district for the implementation of innovative programs and continued momentum toward excellence. The teachers and employees will have an avenue of funding that is not currently available to them.”

A large and diverse group of individuals serve on the foundation’s board of directors representing areas of community, corporate, parental and educational opinions. The group of volunteers includes individuals with backgrounds rooted in the community, as well as those new to the area.

“We are fortunate to have this group of highly motivated and dedicated individuals giving of their time and efforts to our district,” Davies said.

OEF will host a homecoming kickoff at 8 p.m. Friday at Lakeside Oasis located at 15152 US 190 in Onalaska. Anyone seeking additional information about the OEF or interested in learning how to support OISD’s efforts is encouraged to attend.
