Every hunter in Texas (including out-of-state hunters) born on or after Sept. 2, 1971 must complete a hunter education course to legally hunt in the state. With hunting season beginning soon, Heidi Rao, the longtime Hunter Education Specialist for Texas, will offer the class in Livingston. It will be held during the East Texas Conservation Expo, Saturday, October 3 at the Polk County Commerce Center.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife hunter’s education course, offered by North American Outdoors, will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the Expo. Attendees receive a certified card valid for life and honored by other states and provinces throughout North America requiring hunter education.

The hunter education course fee is $15 per person – payable to the instructor upon arrival. The course covers the core standards in Firearm, Hunting and Outdoor Safety, Hunting Responsibilities and Wildlife Conservation. Register online at https://tinyurl.com/76urn3zz.

The East Texas Conservation Expo, organized by the Piney Wood Lakes Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist and Polk County Commerce Center is a free event for the whole family and features a wide variety of experts, resources and education all focused on helping homeowners, ranchers and farmers to protect their land and operate more sustainably.

Rao and her retired Texas Game Warden husband offer certification and firearms training through their small business  www.NorthAmericanOutdoors.org.
