Fighting to protect perfect district record

The Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs (4-3, 2-0) will face off against the Normangee Panthers (2-5, 0-2) in a district road match this Friday.

Another win for the Bulldogs would build momentum going into the last stretch of the district schedule, which is expected to be the most challenging stage.

“Since day one of district, I preached one practice, one game at a time and keeping the process our main focus,” said Bulldog head coach Brett Ratliff. “Everything else takes care of itself. They have seen that the past two weeks. We treat every game like our district championship because a loss means we do not get that chance.”

Under first-year head coach Bret Page, the Panthers finished their non-district schedule with a 2-3 record, with their two wins against Snook and Bruceville-Eddy High School. Normangee averaged just over 17 points and allowed 23 points per game.

So far, Normangee is winless in district, falling 46-6 to Leon and 37-12 at Groveton. This is Page’s first official head coaching position, as he spent the past three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Sulphur Springs. Page helped lead that team to a 10-3 record and a trip to the regional semifinals last year.

Normangee only managed to edge out a single district win last season at home over Groveton.

Corrigan secured a playoff spot in last year’s match versus the Panthers with a dominant 46-22 homecoming win. The Bulldogs’ powerful rushing attack set the tone early, while the defense made key stops and turnovers to build a steady lead.

The victory showcased Corrigan’s depth, physicality, and renewed confidence heading into the last two games of district play.

This year’s Panther offense is led by junior quarterback Marshall Harris.

“Harris really impressed me,” Ratliff said. “He is a tough, bigger player who can throw and run well. So, he is dangerous if we allow him to dictate the pace.”

Kickoff for Friday’s district game is set for 7 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
