For the top district spot

Tuesday’s battle for the District 25-2A lead had a bit of everything. A tight game with two ranked programs was not decided until overtime, as Big Sandy defeated Sabine Pass 68-66.

For a half, the margin remained close, as neither school could go on a run without the other responding. The Wildcats held a three-point lead at halftime, then held the Sharks to eight third-quarter points to go up 47-35.

Sabine Pass would answer, scoring 24 in the final period. The most important of those, a buzzer-beating heave by Cohen Cole from near the visiting bench that sent the contest to overtime.

Jamesley Flowers led his team there with five of the Wildcats’ nine points. A charge taken by Colt Bullock and rebound on a missed free throw by Flowers sealed the win in the extra frame.

Flowers had 24 points, Shudey Beene-Williams had 23, and Bullock 15 for the home team. For the Sharks, Cole scored 32 points and Devin Roberts had 25.
