A memorial visitation honoring Gaylon Ray Rushing, 60 of Livingston, was held Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel. Gaylon was born September 21, 1964, in Lufkin, Texas and passed away May 23, 2025, at his home in Livingston, Texas.

Gaylon’s childhood was spent throughout East Texas and he moved to Livingston when he was in the 9th grade. He soon discovered his talent for, and love of, singing in the award-winning LHS choirs of Tom Myers Sr. where he earned numerous medals in UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest, was a member of the LHS Sweepstakes Award-Winning Mens’ Choir and LHS Sweepstakes Award-Winning Mixed Choir, earned a spot in the first tenor section of the UIL Texas All-State Choir in 1982 and performed at the Texas Music Educators Association Annual Convention.

Later, Gaylor shared his musical talents again, as a member of the Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church of Livingston under the direction of Deborah Graham, the former director.

Always wheeling and dealing, Gaylon was quite the businessman. A hairdresser for 27 years with an extremely loyal following, he owned G. Rushing Hair Company. He eventually left that field to pursue an additional successful career, this time in real estate, working at Prudential Gary Greene and Keller Williams Realty.

Gaylon could light up a room with his twinkling blue eyes and mischievous grin. A consummate reader with a thirst for knowledge and a wicked sharp sense of humor, he was often the life of the party, entertaining everyone with his animated story-telling skills.

Gaylon loved his wife and his boys and providing for them and supporting them was his top priority. Whether it was the baseball field or the football stadium or the concert hall, he loved cheering on his boys in all their endeavors.

Gaylon had a lust for life and adventure and he never met a stranger. He and Gretchen loved traveling. However, a severe stroke in 2017 sidelined him from the active and exuberant life he had previously lived.

Gaylon is survived by his loving wife, Gretchen Shamel Rushing; sons, Ian Ross Rushing and Evan Reid Rushing; mother and father, Joyce and Larry Clamon, father, Ralph Gaylon Rushing; brothers, Darryl Day and wife Tracy, Jeremy Reed Clamon, Brandon Wade Clamon and Shannon Rushing; sister, Melanie Saldana and husband Jerry; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
