The Goodrich ISD School Board swore in election candidates, recognized student-athletes, and ratified a decision to hire two coaches at Thursday’s regular meeting for May.
The board ratified the superintendent’s decision to hire Cordell Carter as athletic director, head boys coach and teacher, Cieara Roberts as girls coach and teacher, and Tiffany Kelso as an elementary teacher.
Goodrich Superintendent Daniel Barton provided updates on several topics, including vetted instructional materials, the accountability system, anticipated changes to the STAAR test, and the district’s five-year strategic plan.
Over the past school year, the district established a strategic planning committee with the goal of identifying unique strengths and developing a design to guide the district over the next five years. As part of the process, they conducted a landscape analysis to closely examine instruction, operations, and systems, thereby uncovering key areas of strength to build upon, as well as opportunities for growth.
Finance Manager Sarah Bacica gave an update on ESSA Title I Grant funds, the Small Rural School Achievement Grant, and closing the 2024–2025 budget. She also presented the financial report for May 2025.
She also administered the statement of elected officers and the oath of office to the unopposed school board election candidates for Positions 5, 6, and 7.
Barton further reported on legislative updates concerning the basic allotment. He also shared updates on FNF (Local) policy, the ag shop renovation, old gym roof, completion of the overhead/security door project, and the custodial/maintenance summer schedule.
Principal Aubrey Vaughan recognized athletes who participated in spring sports, including tennis and track, and acknowledged their accomplishments.
The board took action on several items, including adding an auxiliary staff long-term substitute position to the compensation plan, approving the summer board meeting schedule, approving CDA (local) policy, approving a budget amendment, and extending the contract workdays for the girls’ coach position.
Assistant to the superintendent Tanya McAdams discussed the upcoming board training on board operating procedures, scheduled for May 29.
