The Goodrich City Council met Thursday to discuss work at the school, permits, and the city’s wastewater ponds at the monthly gathering for August.
Work is still ongoing at Goodrich ISD, where water lines were broken. Seven areas were in need of repair, and city contractor Shannon Goins said six of those have been mended, while the seventh is under concrete.
While the repairs were taking place, other problem areas were located. Cleanouts were placed at certain points so a camera could view potential problems in the future.
Mayor Pro-Tem Bobby Wright said any new buildings, structures, houses and stores in Goodrich would need a permit from the city to tie into city utilities.
“We have been having some lines added to it that we don’t know anything about,” Wright said. “There is no telling how long that pipe has been broken, with people coming in and construction just adding to the system. We don’t know where they have tied in at, or if they’ve tied in correctly. I am asking council to take note of that. We need to consider updating our ordinance on that and make sure that any new businesses or add-ons need to come and get a permit.”
The new ordinance will be placed on the September agenda for discussion and possible approval.
Goins also suggested that the city’s fire hydrants should undergo an inspection.
Council approved a drought contingency plan that is renewed after a review every five years. The plan outlines rations or laws to be put in place in the case of a drought. It is a requirement by the state.
Tabling an agenda item on dredging the city’s wastewater pond, council is still attempting to locate a loan. Wright floated the possibility of a special-called meeting to get information on the loan.
Discussions have begun on the city’s Christmas celebration, where Wright said many plans are set.
“There are no changes,” he said. “We will set up the band when it gets closer or whatever we have to do to try to pull this off. We pray that we have good weather.”
There will be a trade days before the parade to celebrate the holidays on Saturday, Dec. 6.
