Goodrich volleyball was able to take their Tuesday night match at home quickly over the Lady Bobcats of Hull-Daisetta, finishing off a sweep of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-19.
Goodrich coach Khadijah Carter had multiple starters missing for various reasons, and pulled up some help from the junior varsity to get the win.
The Lady Hornets had little trouble in the first set, but were challenged in the second. Holding a lead of 18-14, Hull-Daisetta had their most impressive sequence of the night.
The Lady Bobcats scored six consecutive times, producing a two-point lead. However, Goodrich began a comeback to tie it at 20, and then moved ahead for good.
"They stressed me out in that second set, but overall, I think they played a pretty good game," Carter said of her group. "They came together and there was a lot that we had to put together and piece together, because we are missing a lot of girls."
Goodrich looked to have an easy night the rest of the way, starting with a 7-3 advantage in the final set. Yet, the Lady Cats would grab six of the next seven points for a slight lead.
The home team held just a one-point advantage at 17-16 and would make their final push to win by six.
"We started off kind of down, but we've had to work our way up," Goodrich senior Bra'Niyah Wyatt said of the season. "We've had to work together. One goal that we will pursue is to go further than we did last year and to have fun."
The win gives Goodrich a good start to district play, where they will challenge Richards, Hull-Daisetta and High Island.
