A male inmate died of natural causes on Oct. 19 while in the Polk County Jail and the body was transferred to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“An autopsy has been conducted and it has confirmed that the inmate’s death was the result of natural causes. The inmate did not inform jail staff that he had any health conditions, and we are unaware if the inmate himself knew of any health conditions when he was booked into the jail,” Captain Dave Sottosanti said.
Next of kin have been located and notified. The inmate is identified as 60-year-old James Willard of Coldspring. He had been incarcerated in the Polk County Jail since Sept. 7, 2024.
Further investigation is still being carried out by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers Division. No further information is being provided at this time.
