Two busloads of inmates were evaluated and treated for minor injuries by Allegiance EMS at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office following a traffic accident that occurred in Shepherd Tuesday afternoon. The inmates were being transported from Harris County to LaSalle Corrections, a private prison holding facility in Louisiana, when the accident occurred. Knowing that Polk County was the closest nearby facility with a secure fenced-in area large enough to accommodate the buses, San Jacinto County Sheriff Sam Houston contacted Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons for his assistance. Others assisting included DPS, San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, San Jacinto County Fire Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Emergency Management.
