The Lions traveled to Splendora Friday for their first scrimmage of the year. Livingston head coach Tucker Carter said that he was pleased with the performance of his team.
Losing many productive seniors last year, new faces will have to step in quickly to keep the offense going.
“What I was happy about is that we got a lot of young kids that got a lot of reps,” Carter said. “I had a gut going into it of what it was going to look like, and it was pretty similar. I felt all of our backs ran really hard. I feel like we did a good job on offense stylistically. I knew we weren't going to be able to be as wide open and fast-paced, which is fine. I was very pleased with our ability to sustain drives and run the football. I thought we had way too many drops on offense, which will get fixed.”
The passing game wasn’t as crisp as it should be in a few weeks, but backs broke many tackles for nice gains.
Looking to improve on a defense decimated by injury late in 2025, the Lions got off to a good start versus the Wildcats offense.
“I thought defensively, relative to the first scrimmage last year, it has been a big focus of ours to get more kids to the football,” Carter said. “I thought we did a good job of pursuing the football. We let the quarterback get loose and find some kids on the scramble drill, but some of the kids on the back end need to stay attached. It is very fixable stuff, so overall, I am happy.”
The Lion defensive front was able to provide pressure several times, getting to the quarterback (without tackling the QB in a scrimmage).
There will be one final tune-up Thursday at Woodville.
