An inappropriate relationship between an officer and student has cost a member of the Livingston Police Department his job and freedom.
On May 1, Livingston ISD notified the Livingston Police Department about allegations of an inappropriate relationship between an officer and a student.
When LPD received the report, Officer Ryan Ray Boyd, 45, was removed from the school campus and placed on administrative leave while the allegations were investigated.
Due to allegations involving possible criminal conduct, LPD Chief David Mitchell requested that the Texas DPS Texas Rangers conduct an independent criminal investigation. LPD also began an internal investigation into policy violations.
After both investigations were complete, LPD was notified that criminal charges would be filed. On Monday, Boyd was terminated from his employment with the City of Livingston and immediately taken into custody by Texas Rangers.
Boyd was booked into the Polk County Jail after 11 a.m. Monday and charged with improper relationship between educator and student, a second-degree felony.
The school district released a statement Monday afternoon, stating they were aware of the arrest at the high school.
“School-based officers are employees of the Livingston Police Department and serve the district through a memorandum of understanding with the City of Livingston,” the statement read.
“Livingston ISD takes this matter very seriously. The district does not condone or tolerate conduct of this nature by any employee or contracted staff.”
In a statement from the police department, they conveyed that it is understood incidents like this can damage public trust. They want all to know that the allegations were taken seriously from the beginning, saying they remain committed to transparency, accountability, and protecting the community.
This investigation remains active and those with information related to the case are encouraged to contact the Polk County District Attorney’s Office.
