Livingston volleyball made quick work of the Houston Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy Monday at C.E. King with scores of 25-8, 25-7 and 25-3.
“It's a different type of volleyball when you are playing different competitive levels,” Livingston coach Heather Mosser said. “It was hard at time to get momentum going and it was a little bit of a slower paced game. We had a couple of standout servers who came in and just took us on runs. Senior Ytzel Davalos did a great job, Bracee Hicks is a senior, and I had freshman Taylor Wright who served, I think, 22 points in the third set. She just consistently hit ace, ace, ace. It was a big confidence builder for that kid. I think everybody was awed at the fact that she never made an error. She was locked in.”
Wright’s serve performance made the third set an easy one for Livingston. The entire roster got the opportunity to gain playoff experience Monday. Mosser said she planned on playing everyone a bit more, but the streak in the third set did not allow for substitutions.
“There was nothing crazy or standout. It was really just a team effort, which was good to see for a bi-district win,” Mosser said. “The next one, of course, is going to be quite a bit more difficult. We have to show up and any game can be our last at this point, so we have to play all out and leave it on the court. I am hoping we can take this momentum and bring our best this next game.”
That next game will be versus Lumberton at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night at Warren High.
