More local scams occurring

The Livingston Police Department and Polk County Sheriff ’s Office have received several reports of scams in the local area.

The LPD reports a phone scam, where the caller claims to be an officer with the Livingston Police Department and tells the victim they have a federal arrest warrant that can be resolved through payment.

This caller is not an employee or officer with the Livingston Police Department.

The Livingston Police Department will never call and ask for payment to resolve an arrest warrant, does not collect fines or fees over the phone, and will not request payment through gift cards, wire transfers, or any other form of electronic payment.

The PCSO reports a scam where the caller claims to be with DirectTV, telling victims if they pay a set amount, they can decrease their overall bill. The victim is told to purchase a gift card and provide them with the card information.

If someone is contacting you requesting account information or to pay services with a gift card or bitcoin, it is a scam.

Residents receiving these calls are urged not to provide any money or information, and to instead hang up and report the call to law enforcement.
