In an unexpected twist, Clifton Greenup, a new employee at the Polk County Jail, was recently booked into the facility following a Nov. 1 incident.
The incident occurred when other staff members on duty became concerned about Greenup’s condition and contacted deputies who conducted a field sobriety test onsite.
Greenup was then transported to the emergency room for evaluation due to concerns that a medical condition, such as diabetes, might be contributing to his symptoms.
After being medically cleared, he was booked into the Polk County Jail.
The 61-year-old Livingston resident was taken into custody on charges of public intoxication and possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility, a felony offense.
“I want to emphasize my continued commitment to holding all employees accountable for their actions and maintaining professional standards in the service of Polk County residents,” Sheriff Byron Lyons said.
He added that Greenup was participating in on-the-job training and was never left unsupervised with inmates during his employment at the jail.
