Budget development time for county

The tax assessor-collector’s 2025 no-new-revenue and voter-approval tax rate calculations and verification of collection rate will be presented to the Polk County Commissioners Court during a special called meeting at 10 a.m. Monday. A continuation of budget development for fiscal year 2026 is also on the agenda.

Proposed salaries, expenses, and allowances of elected officials for fiscal year 2026 were discussed during a special called meeting Thursday, as were capital purchase projections and the formula for the distribution of the road and bridge portion of the tax rate.

In personnel matters, the Court approved three personnel reclassifications. One district clerk deputy clerk position was reclassified to court clerk and a full-time maintenance laborer was reclassified to part-time and a part-time custodial/maintenance worker was reclassified to full-time.

The Court approved road and bridge equipment lease/purchase through the interlocal purchasing systems (TIPS), thereby satisfying competitive bidding requirements, pursuant to East Texas Mack Sales LLC quotations for the lease/purchase of eight new 2026 Mack P164R dump trucks with M-drive dump ox body units at $198,812.24 each with a 13-month trade allowance of $160,000 each unit, assuming each trade-in unit meets all trade terms, to be paid from road and bridge capital leases fund; the trade/buyback of eight 2025 Mack GR64F trucks at $157,059 each for units currently leased by each road and bridge precinct, assuming each trade-in meets all trade terms; and approve resolution authorizing execution of an agreement with Cadence Equipment Finance, a division of Cadence Bank, related to the estimated August 2025 lease/purchase of road and bridge equipment eight new 2026 Mack granite cab and chassis units equipped with ox body dump bed (to include trade-in of eight 2025 units) and authorizing the county judge to execute said agreements on behalf of the county.

Representatives of four Voice Over Internet Protocol providers – Vested Network, Verge Network Solutions, ESI Solutions and Eastex Telephone – made presentations to the Court regarding the VIOP services they provide.
