Committee begins crafting vision statement

Creating a vision statement was the main item on the agenda for the Livingston ISD Strategic Planning Committee which resumed meeting Monday following a break for summer.

Roz Keck of N2 Learning briefly reviewed the highest aspirations, beliefs and focus group summary – all items completed in the spring – before the strategic planning committee broke into small groups to begin work on a vision statement.

In March of this year, the Livingston School Board approved formation of a strategic planning committee to engage stakeholders in developing the district’s vision, mission and long-term goals.

The district contracted with N2 Learning which was established in 2011 with a mission to help school districts achieve their highest aspirations. N2 has worked with education entities across the state of Texas and beyond on projects such as leadership development, planning and facilitation, transformational learning environments, search services, and assessment and accountability.

Once the vision statement is finalized, the next step will be to create a mission statement. The vision statement will speak to the future and the mission statement will be the roadmap to getting there.

The vision statement will focus on destination by painting a clear, compelling picture of the future the district is committing to creating for every student in the district. The mission statement will focus on purpose and business and will reflect the local voice regarding the valued outcomes delivered for the district.

Representing the diverse perspectives and geographic areas of the LISD community, the strategic planning committee is an ad hoc advisory committee established for a defined purpose and limited duration to serve in an advisory capacity.

Its role is to develop a broad, comprehensive and collaborative strategic planning document that will guide the district for approximately five years. Its work is focused on long-term direction and priorities, not day-to-day operational decisions.
