The County Courthouse Town Hall Meeting with Texas Historical Commission (THC) staff originally slated for today (Thursday) to ask questions regarding the courthouse restoration project has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
The postponement comes on the heels of a letter authored and signed by Attorneys Lana Shadwick, Lee Hon and Tyler Epstein requesting the immediate shutdown and postponement of the forum “due to illegal use of government resources for political purposes.”
The letter was sent to the governor, THC staff, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Ethics Commission and county elected officials.
“We ask that any forum be continued until after the primary or any primary runoff election,” the letter states.
“Even if courthouse renovation is a legitimate governmental topic, the timing – six days before an election – transforms the communication into political advertising under Texas law,” it further states.
