Early voting began Monday for the May 2 city and school district elections and will continue through Tuesday.

The City of Onalaska will elect a mayor and two “at large” council members. Incumbent Mayor James Arnett is seeking reelection. Other individuals running for mayor are Oz Canel and Bart Goldsmith. Four people are seeking election to two “at large” seats that are presently held by Kevin Arnett and Kathy Black Lott. The four people running are Kevin Arnett, Kathy Black Lott, Michael Gooch and Traci Dennison. As these are “at large” positions, the two people with the highest number of votes will be elected to the positions.

In the City of Corrigan, Position 1, which is the mayor’s position, and Positions 2 and 4 will be on the ballot. Incumbent Mayor Johnna Lowe Gibson will remain in Position 1 as mayor, as she did not receive any challengers. Bill Safford is running for reelection to Position 2 and is being challenged by Minnie Harrison and Lucia “Candy” Ascencio. Earlie C. Baldwin will remain in Position 4 as she is running unopposed.

Corrigan-Camden Independent School District (ISD) will elect trustees for Positions 1, 2 and 3. Position 1 is currently held by Misty Woodard, Position 2 is currently held by Elisha Burris Bell and Position 3 is vacant. As of press time, we had not heard back from the district regarding who has filed for the three positions.

Goodrich and Onalaska (ISDs) would have held trustee elections on May 2. However, as no one other than the incumbents filed, the two districts were able to cancel their elections and deem the incumbents reelected.

In the Goodrich ISD, Incumbents Rigoberto Reyes and Lidia Merino will remain in Positions 1 and 2, respectively. In the Onalaska ISD, Incumbents Candice Davies, Kaitlyn Griffin, Ben Wilkins and Jake Ard will remain in their seats on the board.
