Former chamber leader pleads guilty

Yvonne Lynette King of Livingston, the former president/CEO of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce, has been sentenced to 10 years deferred adjudication community supervision and ordered to pay $53,340.74 in restitution to the Polk County Chamber of Commerce.

King entered a guilty plea to the offense of credit card or debit card abuse of elderly, a third degree felony on April 15 in the 411th District Court.

Though the card belonged to the Polk County Chamber of Commerce, it was in the name of Janet Wiggins, the chamber’s previous president/CEO.

An investigation by the Livingston Police Department – and subsequent forensic audit – was launched after then-Livingston Police Chief Matt Parrish received a call from a chamber board member who believed some money was missing.

King was arrested Dec. 11, 2024 and charged with credit card or debit card abuse. She bonded out that same day on a $5,000 bond. King then voluntarily relinquished her position, having just celebrated her 25th year with the chamber shortly prior.

Through the terms of her deferred adjudication, King is ineligible under Texas law to possess a firearm or ammunition and is instructed to abstain from the use or consumption of alcoholic beverages, narcotic drugs or other controlled substance except as prescribed by a licensed physician for legitimate medical purposes.

Brenda Clifton, the chamber’s previous administrative assistant, was immediately named interim president and subsequently named president/CEO of the chamber.

A statement from the chamber’s board of directors released at that time said, “Under her leadership, we are excited about the future as we build on the success of our programs and initiatives, continuing to support our members and promote local businesses. The chamber remains committed to driving positive impact and advancing opportunities for our members and the local economy. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we embark on this next chapter together.”
