LISD to interview six applicants for superintendent position

During a March 11 special called meeting, the Board of Trustees of the Livingston Independent School District approved interviewing six applicants for the superintendent position.

Former Superintendent Dr. Brent E. Hawkins left in January to take the superintendent’s job at Copperas Cove ISD. Hawkins served as LISD superintendent from 2014-2025, the longest-tenured superintendent in Livingston’s 117-year history. Janan Moore is serving as the interim superintendent.

The board heard presentations on behalf of three different firms during a Jan. 28 special called meeting and ultimately selected Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services (ESS) to conduct the search. Joe Dan Lee and Cara Cook with TASB ESS held three meetings in the district on Feb. 25 – one with administrators, one with faculty and one with community members – seeking input regarding the superintendent search.

“The greater number of responses we get, the more valuable the information is,” Lee said at that time.

In other business during the March 11 special called meeting, the board approved an amendment to Nov. 18 action related to the Schneider Electric Energy Services contract and also approved joining the Central Texas Purchasing Alliance.

The 2025-2026 LISD school calendar will be considered for approval during the board’s regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday.
