Dr. Jeff Pack and his family were welcomed to the community during the April 22 meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Livingston Independent School District when the board officially offered a contract to Pack to serve as the district’s new superintendent following the required 21-day waiting period.

Pack has served Dickinson ISD as a cabinet-level executive for the last six years. He is the deputy superintendent for educational services and has served in that role since 2021. He was the assistant superintendent for administration, the executive director for data quality and accountability, and the director for assessment, accountability and compliance. He started his career at Dickinson ISD as the associate principal and then junior high principal. He also served as a high school assistant principal in Alvin ISD and as a chemistry teacher at Galena Park High School.

The board approved signature authority changes at First National Bank and First State Bank, adding Pack and Chief Financial Officer Darla Dear to the accounts. Also approved was the sale of lights and poles at the stadium.

During her administrative report, Interim Superintendent Janan Moore reported the transportation department is still two to three drivers short; parking lot repairs have been completed; the new radios are being programmed; graduation activities are in full swing; budget work is beginning; a list of summer projects is being prepared; and summer school is being finalized.

Athletic Director Tucker Carter reported that he and Assistant Athletic Director Heather Mosser have been busy preparing for “Livingston Strength and Speed Summer 2025,” a seven-week camp designed to help all incoming seventh through 12th-graders, both male and female, build strength, speed and sport-specific skills. The camp will start on June 2 and will be on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Males will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the high school fieldhouse and females will meet at 9 a.m. at the high school fieldhouse. The camp costs $30 and all athletes must have a new medical history form for 2025.

Following an executive session, the board approved the employment of professional personnel for the 2025-2026 school year and also approved three new full-time equivalent positions to LISD staffing for the 2025-2026 school year, including one counselor and two diagnosticians through the Special Services Department.

Although the board was slated to consider action to declare certain district-owned real property as surplus property, and to approve the lease of such surplus property, and to delegate authority to the superintendent of schools to negotiate final terms and to execute such lease in the best interest of the district, the item died for lack of a motion.

The consent agenda was approved. It included minutes from the previous board meetings, financial statement and payment of bills, personal property donations, overnight trips, purchases over $50,000, athletic insurance for the 2025-2026 school year, financial auditor and certification of provision of instructional materials survey for 2025-2026.

The students of Michelle Llanes, a second grade teacher at Cedar Grove Elementary School, were recognized. The class published its very first book and made a presentation to the board.
