Primary season ends ... finally

Following an extremely contentious primary season that has left everyone battle-weary, two remaining local races were decided Tuesday.

In the county judge’s race, Challenger Larry Pfeil received 3,912 votes to defeat Incumbent Sydney Murphy who received 2,584 votes.

In the race for Precinct 2 county commissioner, Challenger Jay Stutts received 1,208 votes to defeat Incumbent Mark DuBose who received 854 votes.

In addition to the two local races that were on Tuesday’s Republican Primary ballot, there were also four statewide races on the Republican ballot and two statewide races on the Democratic ballot.

Statewide results were not complete at press time, but will be reported in the next issue.

In addition to the two local races, other races on the Republican Party ballot included:

  • Incumbent U.S. Senator John Cornyn who faced Challenger Ken Paxton;

  • Chip Roy and Mayes Middleton facing off for attorney general;

  • Incumbent Jim Wright who faced Challenger Bo French; and

  • Thomas Smith and Alison Fox facing off for Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 3.

Races on the Democratic Party ballot included:

  • Marcos Isaias Velez and Vikki Goodwin facing off for lieutenant governor; and

  • Nathan Johnson and Joe Jaworksi facing off for attorney general.
