Big Sandy softball continued its winning ways, taking down Hull-Daisetta 12-2 in five innings Thursday in Dallardsville. The Lady Wildcats are in second place in District 25-2A.
Big Sandy scored early and often, starting with leadoff hitter Paige Cain slapping a base hit. She would advance a bag on a stolen base and another on an overthrow. Jennifer Ware laid down a squeeze bunt, scoring her, but also ended up safe at first. Skyler Wick kept the inning rolling with an RBI-double high off the wall. Heaven Four Bear also doubled. Kaylani Stephenson produced an RBI-single, Braely Fischer an RBI-double and Izzy Robinson plated a run with a single. The home team held a 5-0 buffer after one frame.
The second inning was more of the same, as Ware singled and Wick brought her in on an RBI-single. Stephenson and Tairia Robinson singled, and Fischer brought in two runs with a base hit. Robinson collected her second RBI of the day with another single. The lead had grown to 9-0 after two innings.
The Lady Bobcats got on the board with an RBI-double in the top of the third, but surrendered another in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly RBI, making it 10-1. In the top of the fourth, Hull-Daisetta scored their second and final run on a wild pitch.
The bottom of the fourth wasn’t the biggest inning, but produced the loudest contact. Stephenson smashed a home run over the centerfield wall, and Fischer circled the bases when a ball in the outfield could not be played. Robinson tripled, but would be stranded.
The Lady Wildcats received good work in the circle by Fischer, holding Hull-Daisetta to the two runs over five innings.
