Onalaska FFA Chapter excels at district contest

It was an exciting day for Onalaska FFA’s 14 Leadership Development teams as they competed at the Sam Houston District FFA Leadership Development Events (LDE) Contest in Livingston Nov. 15.

Based on individual scores and team rankings, the students earned second place as a chapter out of the entire Sam Houston district, brought home the second place overall LDE Chapter Sweepstakes Award and advanced eight teams to the Area IX LDE contest Friday in Rusk.

The Sam Houston FFA District is made up of 25 schools ranging in size 1A-6A.

“All of our members did an outstanding job representing the Sam Houston District and Onalaska FFA Chapter incredibly well throughout Saturday’s event,” Onalaska FFA Advisor Adam Graham said. “Also, Ashley Byrd, Sam Houston District Secretary, did a fantastic job organizing and running the District LDE Awards Ceremony alongside her district officer team. We are absolutely thrilled for and are so very proud of each of these students’ accomplishments and successes, and are excited for their upcoming Area IX LDE Contests next Friday.

“Leadership Development Events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication, and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization. Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms,” Graham said.
