Ongoing investigation in shooting incident

The Corrigan Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred around noon on May 18 in the area of 116 Bluebonnet Circle at the Corrigan Square Apartments.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire at the scene and learned of one individual suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, who was rushed to the hospital via a personal vehicle. The male subject that was shot was transported to Houston and is now in stable condition. The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.

Preliminary investigations indicate the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two males over the treatment of the victim’s son. The suspect, later identified as Darius Deshaun Hawthorne, fled the scene in a 2014 white Volkswagen Passat.

Hawthorne, 32, of Woodville, has reportedly turned himself in at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office May 20. He faces up to 10 charges for the incident in Corrigan.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
